How to get gridlines (axis) in IFC export from IMPACT?
Introduction:
Many times it becomes difficult to make any reference in IFC viewer when you are comparing two different IFC model unless and until you have appropriate reference points.
Especially when IFCs are exported using different 3D tools then it is a must to have gridlines. Now it is possible using IMPACT AutoCAD (Architecture) to create gridlines and
export them with IFC export.
It is quite effective when two different IFC model does not have a common reference point. One can drag a whole model and place it on other model using proper grid reference.
Following steps would guide you to create gridlines in IMPACT IFC export.
Step 01: Create gridlines using “Enhanced custom grids” in Architecture AutoCAD.
Step 02: Add labels
Select all gridlines and “Add labels”. Scale up as per your requirements.
You can choose your own labels either numbers, alphabets or combination.
Step 03: Draw IMPACT element using grid lines and save them to IMPACT database
Step 04: Create 3D drawing in IMPACT Project Manager for generation of IFC
Step 05: Copy your gridlines from model drawing to 3D drawing to original coordinates
Step 06: Generate Solid (IFC) elements
So the gridlines are visible along with IMPACT elements.
Step 07: Export to IFC
Step 08: Open your IFC model; IFC with gridlines should be visible.
