Spot Elevations in Shop Drawings

IMPACT Revit version 15.0.008

Means of use

Spot elevations are critical for mounting elements on site, checking heights and levels. Elevation spots can be manually added in Revit program but IMPACT has automized function in shop drawing settings which automatically insert Elevation spots in both cases, Project and Survey level. Follow the instructions below to learn how to apply auto-elevation settings for drawings.

IMPACT spot elevation accounts for recesses, height differences, openings, and thickening. image.png

An example on 3D drawing, what IMPACT Spot Elevations snap on Sandwich wall:

The same annotation and settings can be used for all other IMPACT module elements.

Terminology:

Spot Elevation - a height which rather corresponds to survey or project level, initially set in Revit program.

Project Level - these heights follow project level settings (for example, your Ground level is set to "0", so the bottom is going to be 0)

Survey Level - height corresponds to terrain level which is set in Revit's origin

The origin level point is found in Revit, by using bottom bar function "Hidden elements". The origin is a hidden element.

Add Automized spot elevations to drawings:

1. Find an annotation family that is to be used in the drawing (Survey / Project). Drag it to the template before starting settings.

2. Open drawing template of chosen element category. In this example - wall. Please note that one spot elevation setting is needed for all height differences on the element.

For the wall, settings for position and origin are needed. Remember attaching chosen annotation family for Note and Object Tag functions. As can be seen below:

3. Click on "Apply" - this will save settings and initiate XML file update.

4. Apply template for element shop drawing creation.

Another update that comes with IMPACT Revit version 14.2.008 / 15.0.008 is that recesses, panel thickenings are automatically captured by spot elevation dimension. This dimension can be applied to all plan and elevation views, including Top Elevation. (see figure below)

Spot Elevations on 3D view

Spot elevations can also be applied for 3D views of production drawing.

To automate spot elevations on 3D views, first, make sure that 3D view is added to the sheet.

Then activate spot elevations in IMPACT Drawing settings, selecting 3D view and adding "SpotElevation" setting with "Position" type and simply add annotation family to "Note", and make sure that Object tag is selected as "Vertical (Project)".
