Overview

The backbone for IMPACT as a system is a SQL database used by the clients to store and display data related to the projects being worked on and the companies involved. In addition to the database, IMPACT requires a file share and two web services to run.

The web services enable communication and verification between both parties. Our web services can be published so that computers outside the local area network can connect to the database. This simplifies cooperation between, for example, the factory and the design office. Modifications to the model become visible to both parties immediately without the need for data export/import.

The file sharing is for drawings, reports, log files, etc. which are created and used with the system. The options are to create a shared folder within the local area network that all users have access to. Or, the folder structure is configured on each personal computer. In the latter case, an FTP solution is required that keeps the files updated on each computer when they are changed. The solution with an FTP server is also necessary if several companies work against the same database through public services, as described in the paragraph above. This allows all parties to have updated copies of the files without using a common file directory.

Installation scheme

It's possible to have all components installed on the same server or separately. The two schemes below show how the environment could be set up.

InstallationOption01.svg OR Seperate servers.svg

It's required to have a low latency connection between database and services if they are installed on separate servers.
