Column definitions
Column definitions
In IMPACT 17 for Revit, it is now possible to create column definitions and draw columns by definition in IMPACT model. The column definition is saved into the IMPACT database and should always be a family assigned to the definition.
The column definitions can be created on Project, Local and Common level and there is a possibility to import/export, copy, rename, delete and edit.
The column definitions can be created for the following types: rectangular, circular and user defined.

General
Section preview - shows the preview of the column
Section type - shows the column section type that is selected
Family name - shows the family name that is used for the column definition
Family type - shows the family type that is used for the column definition
Create family - creates a column family according to the column section geometry values. In this example a rectangular column is created and therefore the values used are H (height ) and B (width)
Figure 2 - Creating a column family from column definition
Load family - allows the user to load a column family that will be assigned to the column definition as long as the column family type correspond with the column definition name. The values for the section geometry are automatically filled in. In this example a rectangular column is used and therefore the values filled in are H (height) and B (width) which are coming from the family

Material - used to assign a material to the column
Production line - used to assign a production line to the column. The production line settings properties are configured in IMPACT Standard Admin
Chamfer

Section preview - shows the preview of the column
Distance - the distance of the chamfer. Once the value is inputted in distance, the chamfer value it will also be reflected in the Chamfer points
Text - chamfer text that is displayed in Shop drawing
Chamfer points - allows to select the chamfer number and manually change the chamfer distance and text
Lifting
Figure 6 - Lifting tab in column definition
General
Preview of lifting points - shows the preview of the lifts in beam
Method - shows the method used for placing the lifts. There are two options available - column side and column top
Lift hole dist. from top - shows the distance of the lift hole from top of the column
Max distance two lift points - shows the maximum distance of two lift points
Spacing four lift points - shows the distance of four lift points
Default lift type - shows the default lift type for the current column
Number of lifting points - shows the current selection of number of lifting points. There are three options available - lift hole, two lift points and four lift points
Placing long side
Method - the method used to place the lifts on the long side of the beam. There are three options - part of length, fixed distance and center of gravity. These options are working only if column side is selected as method. Otherwise, if the method selected is column top, then only one option is available - center of gravity.
Parameter - used to specify the value for part of length and fixed distance
Naming
Figure 7 - Naming tab in column definition
Group - indicates the group which the column belongs to and this parameter will be displayed in Shop drawing
Product - indicates the product which the column belongs to and this parameter will be displayed in Shop drawing
Prefix designation - indicates the parameter value of the IMPACT Designation prefix from column family. This parameter will be displayed in Shop drawing
Prefix element mark - indicates the prefix of the column element mark
Prefix drawing name - indicates the prefix of the Shop drawing
