A different way of measuring in Shop drawing

Introduction

There are situations where the project is designed with special elements (linked elements) and the dimensions cannot be taken from the outer edges of the element but instead needs to be taken from a specific edge of the element.

We are now introducing a new dimensioning method where it is possible to decide the edges where the dimension should start and end measuring the special elements (linked elements).

When creating a linked element family, it is now possible to add the following reference planes that can be used for dimensioning specific edges of the element:

  • IMPACT Left
  • IMPACT Right
  • IMPACT Top
  • IMPACT Bottom
  • IMPACT Front
  • IMPACT Back

The reference plane names are hard coded, and in order to start or end dimensioning a specific edge, one needs to use the exact same names.

Example

In the example below we will add a reference plane on a specific edge of the linked element. We will then generate a Shop drawing and measure the element from the specific edge that we specified.

Open the linked family and draw the reference plane on the edge that should be measured. Give a name to the reference plane that corresponds with the edge of the element. Load the family and overwrite existing parameters.

We are now generating a Shop drawing and dimension the main geometry of the element and the cast in materials from the edge that we specified with the reference plane in the linked family.
