Mould symbol for linked elements

When working with linked elements it is necessary to show information about the Mould symbols in Shop drawing. We are now introducing a new feature in IMPACT for Revit, which will automatically place the Mould symbol in a view when generating a Shop drawing.

In order to define the placement of the Mould symbol in Shop drawing, one needs to do some preparation in the linked element family. The preparation in the linked element family is done by drawing some reference planes which will define the position of the Mould symbol when the Shop drawing is generated.

The position of the Mould symbol when generating a Shop drawing is determined by the intersection point of two reference planes.

The reference plane names are hardcoded and it is required to use the following names:

  • Mould Up Face
  • Mould Up Position

          or

  • Mould Down Face
  • Mould Down Position

It is important that the vertical reference plane in the linked element family is named Mould Up Postion/Mould Down Position and the horizontal reference plane is named Mould Up Face/Mould Down Face.

In the example below, we will prepare the placement of Mould Up symbol in the linked family so that when we will later generate a Shop drawing, the Mould Up symbol will be placed in the position we specified in the linked element family.

Once the reference planes are added to the linked family, one can load the family into the project and overwrite the existing version and its parameters value.

We are almost ready to generate a Shop drawing for the linked element, but before doing that we need to configure the Mould symbol in a drawing view from the Shop drawing template settings. Both Mould symbols needs to be selected in the Mould symbol settings from the Shop drawing template settings.

We will do it for the Elevation Top view in this example.

We are now ready to generate the Shop drawing for the linked element and automatically insert the Mould symbol in the position specified in family.
