Create a Crane in the Database

In order to create a crane you will need to know the strength/distance that the crane operates. Then you will need to create the crane in the PM software as follows:

Project Browser -- Components -- Double click on “Cranes”. There should be a crane called “POTAIN H30_30C”.

You can right-click on the free space and select new. Write a name and description.

A new window will pop out that will ask you to write the Radius (in meters) and Capacity (in tones). The colour scheme should be according to your specifications. Press ok after you are finished. An example is shown below.

Add/Edit/Hide/Remove Crane on the Project Manager

If you feel that you made a mistake then right-click on the crane that you just created, and press “properties”. You can edit anything you want there

Now we can use the crane on our model. The crane works well in combination with the model view, thus on the Home page in PM you can find the different possibilities for a crane.

Press “Add crane” and the following window will pop up.

Select the crane that you want to add and give it a name. The name could be something concerning working hours, or how many cranes are used in the same project. Activate the boxes for the phases and the building floors.

Press “Pick insertion point” and move your crane to the right of the model.

Note: The location in a training is not something that has to be precise. In a real project where you have the coordinates of the building, you will be able to select the insertion points x and y if necessary, as well as a start and end angle!

After that press OK.

Now press "Add Crane" again, and use the same crane later in the day, adding the following name and activating the floors and phase. Move the crane to the left of the building.

Now your model should look like the one in the following picture

If you are not satisfied with the location of the cranes you can select them and press "Move" to move it or "Edit" if you want to activate/deactivate phases and floors. The active menu possibilities are shown below.

Perform Load Check

Now that the crane is added, press "General Load Check" to see which elements are getting red and which are getting green.

We can see that the elements in the middle are not carried by either of the 2 cranes, which means that we either have to move the cranes closer to the middle or add a 3rd crane to take the load check. In our case we will just move "Crane 1- Location 2", a little closer tp the left edge and then perform a "General Load Check"

Every time you edit you can perform a load check. to see If all elements are green. If you are satisfied with the result, then you can select your Cranes, press "Hide" and move on to the next part of the training.
