Set Erection Sequence

Now we will need to set the erection sequence. Before we start we will need to activate the 2 modules called Erection Planning and Simulate

Double-click on floor 1 on the Project Browser and filter out all the elements of floor 1. Then double-click on Sandwich Wall.

Now select one by one the elements by pressing "ctrl", in the sequence that you want them to be erected.

Note: If you want to go faster try and press "shift+ctr" and then a line will show up that can mark elements faster in the desired order.

See below:

After you select the elements and while they are marked, go to the "erection planning module" and check “Selection order”, start with the number 1 and press “Add Elements”.

Now the elements are in a new window and you can add more information to these elements while they are given an erection sequence number. You can also assign a specific crane directly to the elements at this point in the project.

Press APPLY. It is very important to press apply otherwise your sequence will be lost.

Note: You can press apply every time that you add elements in the erection planning, or at the end when all the elements are added in the erection planning window. Remember that the selection order is the one that is responsible for the erection sequence number.

Perform the same for all element types in the following turn: Walls, Columns, Beams, Hollowcore Slab, Prestressed Slab, Formslab, Slab. The order in which you will select the elements is very important (in a real project), but in this training, you can decide for yourselves what order you think is the best. Do that only for the elements on Floor 1.

When you finish you can change the colour of the elements to the one that is called “Erection”. If all the elements have a green colour, that means that they are all added an erection sequence number.

If you have added all the elements, then the new starting number on the erection planning module should now be 130!

Note: You can see the Erections Sequence number on the model view by activating it from the View tab in PM.

Edit/Clear Erection Sequence

Filter all elements on the first floor and open the "Element Ids" tab.

Right-click on the header and select the Grid preset to be "Rough Planning" (if you have not already done that in a previous step).

You can select the header for the erection sequence and arrange the column by the erection sequence number as shown in the picture below.

You can double-click on any one of the elements and change the erection sequence number. You can also use the same number for 2 elements even though that is not suggested.

If you forgot an element and you want to add it in between numbers then you can change the range of the sequence from one number to another one and then add the erection sequence number for the forgotten one in between.

In our case, we will clear the erection sequence from number 2 and try and put it back up in position 1, by using the right-click function.

Select the element with erection sequence 2, right-click, "planning" and "clear erection sequence". Press Save on the top of the element Ids tab.

Select all elements from sequence 3 and above, then Right click – Planning – Change erection sequence from 3 to 129 and then add 1, press ok, and then Save on the top right of the element Ids tab.

Now your element's erection sequence number is changed and you can add the empty element to get the number 3 just by double-clicking on the field and writing 3. In the same manor change the element with erection sequence 1 to erection sequence 2.

Remember to change the "Start Number" to 131 as your last erection number has increased by 1.

Note: Not having an element with erection sequence 1, is not something that will affect our project. Numbers are just the way that we are telling the software how we want our elements to be erected!

Note: In the software, any field that has a header with BLUE letters is modifiable, which means that you can click on it and change it on the spot. Any header with BLACK letters is a column that is not editable. This applies to all IMPACT applications that have columns with headers.

Simulate

Go to the "Simulate" tab next to "Erection Planning", unmark the box "Show unplanned elements", select "Mode -- Erection sequence" and press Start.

If It does not work at first, press the "Rewind button" and then press "Start" again.

Note: If you want to know how to take a video/gif of the simulation to show it to your partners or cooperating companies that do not have access to IMPACT, then please see the following video on YouTube.
